Fangirling 101

Per Merriam-Webster dictionary, “Fangirling” is defined as:

A girl or woman who is an extremely or overly enthusiastic fan of someone or something;

To Exhibit fandom often to an excessive degree : to behave like an extremely devoted or overly excited fangirl.

Ladies and Gentlemen…..I am a fangirl! Wait, let me back up and start from the beginning…..

I started reading this book, Dear Life by Meghan Quinn; now, this isn’t your typical rom-com story…no, this book was deep and emotional. I read this book in ONE DAY!

There is a message that carries through the entire story “Prove Your Existence”. Each of the characters had this task. It made me think, wow! What a thought? How do I prove my existence? Well, I wasn’t. I was sitting by and letting life happen. I wasn’t putting myself out there and after reading Dear Life, that mentality changed.

Which now brings me to Fangirling….because you see, I had the most amazing opportunity to meet the author, Meghan Quinn, at Indies Invade Philly in 2017…..and yes….I total fangirled!!! I have video and photographic proof of it. And I am not ashamed of it!!!

In 2018, I attended Book Bonanza in Denver, Colorado, where yet again, I fangirled over Meghan! But this time, I was able to show her a tat that I got because of her book, what a moment!!!

So, I have lived up to Merriam-Webster’s definition of fangirl and I am here to say…

I AM A PROUD FANGIRL!!!!!!

How Books Helped This Introvert to People Better ❤️📚

By A Bibliophile

I love books, peopleing not so much. I am a nurse, a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a friend. All of these things tend to be draining on my soul. As an introvert, I refill my tank during my alone time. This alone time is when I read. The BBBGirls motto is that “we lose ourselves in books and we find ourselves there too”. I love experiencing the different worlds and personalities. In books you get to live a life that you never would have, if not in a book. Maybe it’s escapism, I don’t know, I don’t care. It fills my soul.

That being said, it also made me come out of my comfort zone by helping me to interact with humans on a social level. And actually enjoy it. I have made more friends than I ever had as a child. All because of a shared love of reading. I have driven across many states (by myself) to stay at the home of someone who I met through books. At the time I hadn’t even met her in person!! Hello, waaayyy out of my comfort zone! I’ve become part of a blog that has given me opportunity to talk to so many new people. I skype into our monthly book chats. Staring at my own face speaking is terrifying by the way. I’ve started going to signings and actually speaking to authors whose books I have loved. Madness! I no longer sit quietly in the background and just watch everyone else living their best life. Books have given me strength, knowledge, and self-esteem. I have realized that I can also fill my soul by sharing my love of reading with all of you!

Will The Witcher change Romancelandia?

By a Bookseller

Have you seen The Witcher on Netflix yet? If you haven’t watched this show then get on it. It has a broody damaged hero that battles monsters, has magic and….believe it or not…..humor. Every time Geralt of Rivia says “fuck” I swoon…..hard.

The Witcher has reignited my love of all things Paranormal Romance. I remember the early days of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Karen Marie Moning, Nalini Singh, Laura Adrian, JR Ward and so many others. It seemed that there was a new PNR release every Tuesday I just HAD TO HAVE.

Now, I wait for my book from the Warden, Nalini Singh or Gena Showslter once a year. Twice if I’m lucky. PNR just isn’t as popular anymore.

The last 8 years or so has seen a shift in Romance to contemporary romance. Trilogy’s and duets with cliffhangers, BDSM and so much angst.

Indie authors have stormed the castle and given readers so many amazing choices we never had before. Sure, there are some PNR and Fantasy indie authors out there. But the selection isn’t what it was back in the early to mid 2000s.

BUT…..I recently read War of Hearts by S. Young and was absolutely blown away with it. The world building, the strong heroine, the uber alpha werewolf hunting her. This book is what I’ve been waiting for. It reminded me of the first time I read A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. I was caught up in the pages and transported all over the world. Reading about fantastical characters that could do extraordinary things.

I also read Cowboy in Wolfs Clothing by Kait Ballenger this last year. I’ll be honest with you. I’m not a fan of the title. The cover is hot but in my opinion the publisher went with the “campy romance” feel. But when you read this book it’s ANYTHING but campy. It’s dark and twisted and the hero is NOT you’re typical textbook “good guy”. He’s done some not so good things and is looking to change that. The entire world that Ms Ballenger built for this series is complex, full of intrigue and I couldn’t put it down.

Could these new series be a sign of great things to come???

I’m holding onto hope that The Witcher will usher back an explosion of Paranormal Romance. I know I’ve missed it. How about you?
