Blurb

From the NYT Bestselling Author of
Breathless With Her comes a fake relationship romance that’s all too real.

Professing her love to her best friend while wearing only her favorite panty
set and coat probably wasn’t the best decision Amelia Carr has ever made. In
fact, it’s perhaps the worst. But when her family becomes their overprotective
selves while encroaching on her life, she makes a rash decision: her brother’s
best friend will just have to be her beard. Too bad, he has no idea what he’s
in for.

Tucker Reinhard loves women, and they tend to love him even more. Despite the
love, he never would have expected Amelia to come up with the plan she poses to
him. He’ll go along with it, but only because he doesn’t want to see her
hurt—even if that means fighting his best friend.

In the midst of her scheme, Amelia realizes she doesn’t know Tucker as well as
she thought. And neither of them are prepared for what happens when they let
the façade go and see what truly lies beneath.

“Kirby, when do you move in?” Maureen Melon shrieked as Margo walked into the kitchen. “Did you hear that M&M? Kirby bought a house!”

“Wow,” Margo said flatly, greeting the news with the same enthusiasm as dental work.

“I close next week. And then after that,” Kirby trailed off, lost in a haze of euphoria before exclaiming, “I’m gonna be a homeowner at 24! Can you believe it?”

They both looked at Margo with stars in their eyes.

“I can’t,” Margo echoed dryly…

Margo had moved home as a stopover after a failed stint at Popler, the holy grail of fashion magazines, but that was four years ago now. She’d nabbed the position her senior year and crammed her entire world into two checkable duffel bags and flung herself across the country to a rundown studio in Harlem. In real life it was 246 square feet of worn walls and sloping floors.

Perfection, Margo had thought the moment the door swung open. Her first day, she arrived ready to run the place. But, after eight weeks of only filing, running errands, and fetching coffee, she surmised she wasn’t being used to her fullest. So, with an abundance of entitlement that she mistook for confidence, Margo marched into her boss’s office. Lennox Stanton sat before her picking apart a vegan burrito like a vulture clad in Balmain as Margo launched in: “People say you have to start at the bottom, but I don’t think that applies to everyone. Some of us are meant to start several rungs up. I’m happy to get your coffee every once and a while, Lennox, but I’d like to be given more challenging duties if I’m expected to remain in my position.”

Five minutes later, Margo was on the corner of 45th and Times Square holding the contents of her desk, three packages of Little Debbie snacks, and a fake cactus. Lennox Stanton had fired her.

Her parents had encouraged her to bootstrap a way to stay in New York. “I’m not just taking any job, Dad,” she’d protested. “I wanna write, not wait tables.” The next day, she bought a ticket home. “It’s fine. I’ll take this time to write,” she informed her parents as she hefted her suitcase off the baggage carousel. Their worried glances said they weren’t so sure.

Kirby, on the other hand, skyrocketed. While waiting in line for coffee in between her classes Kirby had met a coding student, David, from the technical school across the street. Together, the pair formed a resale fashion start-up, Blush & Bashful, selling Kirby’s vintage finds. Surprising even to them, it took off and took them with it. Kirby went from a girl with no professional drive to driving a Mercedes in two short years. As far as Margo was concerned, that ride, metaphorically and literally, was supposed to have been hers.

“Earth to Margo!”

Margo shook free from the memory to find her mom passing Champagne flutes through the window that connected their dining room and kitchen and robotically grabbed them. She lapped the table placing one flute at each seat.

“What do you mean a channel?” she asked as Kirby joined her relay team, falling in rank behind her, placing napkins at each stop.

“I mean a channel, AN ACTUAL CHANNEL. I’ve already started shooting videos for the site, and we’re changing my title to editor in chief and style director. Can you believe…”

Margo halted. Kirby smashed into her back. “What?” Margo asked indignantly. “You’re an editor in chief just because some coding school dropout gives you the title?”

Kirby’s face crumpled.

“MARGO!” her mother reprimanded. Silence stood like soup in the room.

She knew she should stop but didn’t. Couldn’t. “I’m the writer. Not you. What have you ever done? I mean, really, Kirby? Seriously?” she asked, each word punctuated with accusation.

“You made eyes with a guy in a coffee shop who wanted in your pants and somehow you parlay that into a self-professed editor in chief title. You’re such a fake. And….”

“THAT’S ENOUGH!” Hank Melon boomed from the doorway. “Margo Valentine Melon, you will not speak to your sister that way. What has happened to you? You’re the one who quit. Not me.

Not your mother. Certainly not Kirby. You. You gave up. You threw in the towel. And yet here you are trying to hang all of us with it. I don’t think so, young lady.”

His words stung, mostly because they were true. Margo wanted to yell at them, like a child who drops their ice cream and then shouts at everyone standing around for what was their own mistake. She bit her lip to keep it from trembling, placed the remaining flutes on the table, and rushed out.

“Margo?” Kirby started behind her.

“Give her a minute.” Maureen grabbed Kirby’s arm.

Carved into the side of the hill halfway down Beverly Crest sat Coyote Café, a small sliver of an establishment that was easily missed thanks to its hidden façade, so much so that Margo had missed it. She had to go down the hill and turn around, driving back up to locate it. She waited for one of the only spots in the lot that her beat-up Bronco would fit into. When she walked into the café, she stepped in a puddle of water. Damn it! Chelsea’s McQueens!

“What can I get you?” he asked.

Margo felt herself relax, the anger shaking free from what had just happened up the hill. “Ain’t that the truth,” she said, smiling at his positivity.

Margo rattled off her order and paid at the register.

“Take a seat.” He pointed to the booth. “I’ll get that right out to you. Want any pastries?” he asked, as he began to grind coffee beans, gesturing with his head toward the counter brimming with cake stands. “We make ’em homemade daily. I get up at 4 a.m. just to do it.”

Margo looked at the counter and spied the pile of at least ten croissants under an elegant glass cloche. She thought of Mix’s request for the flaky and buttery baked goods. “Nope, all set,” she said as she took a seat.

As Margo sat in the oversized walnut booth, a flood of anger and uncertainty washed over her. Universe, God, Beyoncé, Oprah, give me a sign of what I’m supposed to do. I thought I was on the right path, but I don’t know. I just need a sign of what to do next, of where I belong….

We have met Nix in previous books. He is the computer geek, single dad, not looking for commitment Kane brother. This book gives you insight into Nix and it show that there is more to him that meets the eye. We gathered from other stories that Nix was left to raise his daughter when she was small and he been doing on his since with no word from her mom. Nix decide he does not need a meaningful relationship just occasional fun. Then he meets Payton and his view begins to change. Payton had a mission to complete and that was her only goal. Nix and Payton soon found out that sometimes the best laid plans change. I loved how this story had so many layers to it. It drew you in and kept you wondering how the pieces were all going to fall into place. This was really good read. There was just the right of emotions and suspense to draw you and keep your attention!

When I pick up a book by KA Linde I know it will be enjoyable with great writing and characters. That’s what Broken Record is! Honestly I did not read the first 4 books of the series but now I do plan to go back and read about Brady and Liz and Clay and Andrea. Broken Record is about Brady and Clay’s little sister, Savannah. Savi and her best friend from birth, Lucas, keep getting involved then not then she’s dating someone and he’s jealous and they fight…and this goes on and on like a Broken Record! Will they finally get their act together!? How can you not love this book with these characters that are so easy to fall in love with. Savannah is dedicated to her work and to proving herself beyond her well known last name. And Lucas is a hottie basketball player who is living his dream. Even if you haven’t read the other books in the series I don’t think you’ll miss out on much here. I didn’t feel lost at all. I still thoroughly enjoyed the book and was just sad that it was such a quick read. Another excellent book by Ms. Linde…no surprise there!

Dangerous Games - Teaser 1 AN.jpg

Excerpt

Eva

“Make a sound and she dies.”

His gun pressed to the woman’s temple, Dimitri speaks in Russian, his voice as soft as silk. His smile says he assumes I’ll obey his instruction, because experience has taught him that I will.

This is an old game between us, one I know well. A game called Do What I Say, or Someone Innocent Suffers.

In this case, the someone innocent is a terrified stranger holding a bottle of wine who Dimitri used as a lure. She really could be the woman who owns the Airbnb rental Naz and I checked into, which she identified herself as when I asked through the closed door of the apartment moments ago, but I’ll probably never know.

Because her brains are about to paint the porch red.

Sorry, lady. I stopped taking orders from this asshole a while ago.

My scream is a wild beast of a thing, tearing out of my throat with fangs and claws. It’s long, loud, and composed of a single word.

“Naz!”

The woman jumps, drops the bottle of wine, and bursts into hysterical tears.

Dimitri is so stunned by my disobedience that he simply stares at me in blank disbelief.

I take advantage of his surprise and kick him as hard as I can in his balls.

He doubles over with a roar but doesn’t drop the gun. The woman shrieks like an air-raid siren. Naz calls out from somewhere behind me, a panicked shout, but my attention is caught by the sound of heavy boots pounding up the wooden stairs to the second-story apartment. I only have time to scream Naz’s name again before a group of armed men dressed all in black swarm the landing at the top of the stairs and crowd there shoulder to shoulder.

Dimitri’s soldiers point a forest of handguns at my face.

The woman’s eyes roll back into her head, which makes a dull thud as it hits the landing’s iron rail on her way down to the floor. She flops sideways, unconscious, legs splayed. Her plaid housedress rides up, exposing flabby thighs the color and texture of curdled milk.

“Take her!” snarls Dimitri through gritted teeth. His eyes blaze cyborg blue, but he’s still doubled over, cradling his groin.

I spin around to run but am caught by my T-shirt and yanked backward. My back bumps into a solid surface. A forearm as hard as an iron bar snaps into place around my throat. I scream again, struggling and clawing at the arm that holds me, but my scream is cut short as the arm tightens like a vise.

As stars pop in my vision, Naz emerges from the bedroom with his gun in his hand.

He strides toward us, arm outstretched, fully nude and heartbreakingly gorgeous.

“Stop where you are!” shouts Dimitri in English.

Apparently he’s recovered from my attack on his balls, because he jerks upright and shoves the barrel of his gun under my jaw. My teeth clack together with the force of it.

Naz freezes in place. His eyes are black and wild. His hair is wet. He’s dripping with moisture from the shower, his body gleaming, his chest heaving up and down with each breath.

Each labored, fury-filled breath. I can almost taste his rage. It’s a sharp metallic tang in the air, dangerous enough to cause spontaneous combustion. There’s a moment of electric silence where the only sound is the harsh breathing of the man who’s holding me. His mouth is so close to my ear that his hot breath is a wash of steam down my neck. Then Naz takes a careful step forward, and Dimitri speaks.

“Yes, come closer. If you want her dead.”

Naz freezes again. He’s focused on Dimitri with extraordinary intensity, his eyes unblinking and his jaw like stone. He appears to have no self-consciousness about his nudity and no fear that he’s staring down a dozen muzzles of loaded guns. Every muscle in his powerful body is tensed, ready to strike.

He’s magnificent. David challenging Goliath, the light of vengeance in his eyes.

Please, God, don’t let him be about to die!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hitting the ground running has never been a more appropriate phrase. Hitting the ground sprinting may be better for this third and final installment to Naz and Eva’s story. The book starts out right where Dangerous Desires leaves off. The action in the story is high octane and darker than the previous installments. Eva is in a bad situation with the evilest of evil villains….Dimitri. I would be hard-pressed to name a villain more vile and cruel. I read this in a single day as I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what happened next. Eva and Naz have had such a difficult journey to their HEA. I was rooting hard that these characters would find some peace. Dangerous Games is at it’s heart Eva’s book. Her strength of character and endurance are fully tested and she emerges shining brightly. Naz is her man and the baddest of badasses but….she is just as formidable. I loved the bits of humorous dialogue between Naz and Killian. They served to lighten the darkness of some of the events taking place. I will not spoil anything, but will say that the conclusion of the Eva vs. Dimitri story arc is very satisfying. The epilogue for Naz and Eva was sweet and swoony and based on everything this couple had to go through….this was so meaningful and appreciated. An awesome conclusion to a series I enjoyed very much. Emma Scott is a magnificent writer and she totally nailed it with Someday, Someday! It took me a while to read this book because at times it was difficult and I had to take a break. But at the same time I was so into it I didn’t want to put it down and wanted to know the whole story of Max and Silas right then! This book is not just another MM romance. It’s so much more. It’s about two people who have overcome a lot of hardship and roadblocks and have come out on the other side trying to navigate through their lives and mend their relationships. These two people meet and it’s fireworks! They are amazing together but they also have a lot of issues to overcome just because they are together…and they are two men. Overall this book is written so well! I instantly fell in love with Max and Silas as people independently then as a couple. I cried for them when learning about what they’ve gone through. I got goosebumps all over multiple times while reading. I was totally invested in this story and these characters. Do not miss this book! Even if you aren’t a fan of MM romance, you will not regret picking this book up and getting lost in the world of Max and Silas!
